Lincoln, NE to Omaha, NE

Today was a pretty packed day, even though our ride was a short 50 miles.
We started off the day like usual with the same old breakfast. We were staying at the Nebraska fraternity house, a little different than the usual church or school. I had to make the wake up mix, so I got that ready at 5:45, 15 minutes before everyone else woke up.

We headed out to Lincoln as soon as possible. I was with Rudy (TCU), Tyler (U of Southern Miss), and Alex (Georgia Tech). The roads were absolutely horrible. The first 10 miles has so many potholes and dangers on the road. Top it off with some rush hour traffic and you get a sticky situation. I had to put on a new tire on my front wheel yesterday, and by the 20 mile mark, I already could tell that they were wearing at ridiculous speed just because of the condition of the roads. Once we got out of Lincoln, the roads were a little bitter, but not by much. I was pretty disappointed with the campus…for a college campus, especially a Big Ten college campus, it needs to step up its game. It felt very odd.
As we approached Omaha, there was a sign to two smaller Nebraska towns, South Bend and Louisville, which I found a little funny. I guess they need to compensate for their lack of talented college sports teams…After what seemed to be a short but stressful trek, we finally made it to Omaha. We had one of the crew members ride someone’s bike today, you could tell Eli did not think the ride was short but definitely stressful.

Once we arrived we were sponsored by lunch by Trent’s parents (University of Nebraska). They took us to a Chinese buffet. We did some serious work. 30 cyclists. 1 buffet. Enough said. After 4 plates of goodness we headed to lodging. We had 3 miles to go to get to lodging. It was not fun to get on our bikes on such a full stomach. We pedaled through it and finally got to the Woodward Lutheran Church. We walked across the street to the YMCA to take a shower and we relaxed until dinner. After all that food, I just passed out and slept it off.
We headed to this park for dinner/friendship visit. They served us some sloppy joes and chips. We interacted with a few of the participants and eventually, a dance broke out. These dances at the beginning of the trip were pretty awkward, however, by now, they were actually pretty fun, especially as everyone gets real goofy and tries to entertain the participants.
After dinner, a few of us headed back to lodging. We had a quick team meeting that really dragged on forever. By the end of it, it was already 9:30 but a few of the group headed to Dave and Busters, an arcade/restaurant/bar. One of my chapter brothers, Beck, lives in Omaha and him and his brother drove over for a couple hours. It was great to see him, and made me really excited for Ann Arbor and Chicago. By 11:30, we had to cut it short because of my curfew. It was a pretty good night, but tiring, nonetheless.
